Academic Talent Search

Academic Talent Search

Academic Talent Search (ATS) is a program offered by California State University, Sacramento for students in grades 6 - 9 in the Sacramento area. Classes are typically offered over the summer in a condensed format (1-5 weeks), and cover a wide range of traditional and innovative subjects. Some high schools may accept these classes for course credit towards a diploma.

Eligibility Requirements

The program was designed for students currently enrolled in 6th-9th grades, however younger students have been accepted on a case-by-case basis.

Students who wish to be considered for enrollment must take the ATS Qualifying Exam. The exam consists of a 20 minute verbal section and a 20 minute math section. Scores in these respective sections may limit the classes that the student can take, depending on the minimum score requirement listed for the class.

Program Costs

Academic Talent Search does not receive any federal or state funding. It is a self-supporting, although nonprofit, program, and course fees may vary depending on the course type and length. Books and course supplies may not be included in the course fees.

The program does offer financial aid options including scholarships, to help offset the cost of the program.

Additional Benefits

Students who complete courses in this program may be able to apply them toward high school course credit, allowing them to graduate early and/or participate in an early college entrance program, such as the Accelerated College Entrance Program, which is also offered at California State University, Sacramento.
