California Biblical University and Seminary

California Biblical University and Seminary (CBUS) is a private institution of higher and post-graduate education, located in the heart of Sourthern California in Orange. It is unaffiliated with the US Department of Education. Since 2004 CBUS has been regulated by the Bureau for Private Postsecondary and Vocational (BPPVE) and remains committed to working within the regulatory authorities of the State of California.
According to the 2008 catalog, "CBUS seeks to produce Christian leaders who will fulfill the cultural mandate as well as the mission mandate. To this end, it is a pioneer in California, offering outstanding Bible-based external degree programs for pastors, missionaries, and business people who wish to grow in the grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ." (page 8)
CBUS holds regular courses in the buildings of Main Place Fellowship and also offers long-distance studies to help augment learning. The Main Place Fellowship is located in the city of Orange. The current senior administrator and provost of the university is Dr. Martin Mosier. An excellent team of long-standing doctorate faculty support the university in its courses and vision.
Philosophy of Education and Mission
CBUS has structured its programs, courses, and faculty to model that of a Christian world and life view. This means that the school seeks to offer a sound biblical education in accord with Reformation principles and underpinnings. The programs are geared towards adult learners. On campus lectures combined with digital media are used to augment education and facilitate the desire to study while working. The school has the purpose of providing students with a thoroughly God honoring and biblically faithful education (page 11).
Programs Offered
CBUS currently offers biblical and theological degress in a multitude of programs. The school prospectus remains unchanged since the publication in 2008 (copies can be obtained through the school). The institution offers programs at both undergraduate and graduate level. The doctoral program, Doctor of Biblical Apologetics no longer appears to be offered, perhaps due to lack of funding or faculty support, though the classes are still offered.
The current undergraduate programs offered are: Certificate in Biblical Apologetics, and Certificate in Biblical and Theological Studies, Bachelor of Biblical Apologetics, Bachelor of Biblical and Theological Studies, and an Associate in Biblical Studies. Graduate programs are: Master of Biblical Apologetics, Master of Missional Theology, and a Graduate Certificate in Biblical and Theological Studies.
Academics & Service
CBUS follows a standard grading system that is reflected in all accredited institutions across the country. Students are graded with letters that reflect a GPA score. Students from CBUS have continued into Christian ministry, serving in various capacities, and some have continued on to further academic pursuits. CBUS is a recognized higher academic institution by other schools and church organizations. CBUS is privilaged to contribute to the ministry of Christian work.
Future of the School
As with many schools today, CBUS appears to be struggling financially and is currently without a website. Resources are distributed to enrolled students via CDs. In spite of financial and few faculty members the school continues to graduate students who successfully complete all program requirements in accord with State regulations. Graduations from undergraduate programs were held in Tustin in May 2010.
