StraighterLine is a provider of distance learning modules for school leavers in the USA providing transferable College credit and online Tutoring Assistance.
History
It began operations in May 2008 when it was initially launched as a division of SMARTHINKING, Inc., which provided online tutoring and academic support to students. It January 2010 the business was acquired by Burck Smith, co-founder and former CEO of SMARTHINKING, and raised finance from private investors.
Courses
Every college student around the nation has to enrol into college classes that are referred to as prerequisites. Each college tends to have the same prerequisite courses. StrighterLine provides the following courses that are offered as prerequisites.

*American InterContinental University is regionally accredited and designed for career-minded students who want to earn an undergraduate or graduate degree their way, on their schedule, through online courses.
*Charter Oak State College is an online, distance learning institution established in 1973. They were created to assist adult learners in completing their college degrees. Today they proudly offer, "Degrees Without Boundaries," by offering more than 180 online courses to help individuals towards a Bachelor's degree, Associate degree, or certification in a wide variety of programs.
*Fort Hays State University was established in 1902, and is a state-assisted university located in Hays, Kansas. Fort Hays State has an enrollment of over 12,000 students. Today, more than half of these students are taking courses online through their Virtual College.
*Jefferson Community and Technical College is based in Louisville, Kentucky, is the largest of 16 colleges forming the Kentucky Community and Technical College System. They have around 15,000 Students across 6 campuses and eLearning sites. As a public, comprehensive, post-secondary institution, Jefferson is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award a associate degree.
*Kaplan University believes the talent of thousands of non-traditional students has been ignored for far too long. They have changed the rules of education through technology, a student-centric approach, and professors with real-world experience. They provide over 125 degrees and over 10 locations, Kaplan allows students study wherever, whenever online or on campus.
*Florida Gateway College - formerly known as Lake City Community College is located outside of Lake City, Florida, near the juncture of Interstates 10 and 75 in northern Florida. The college was established in 1961 as Lake City Junior College and Forest Ranger School and is one of 28 public community colleges in Florida. The college offers Associate in Arts degree as an accredited institution and must be accepted by state universities in Florida.
*Potomac College was founded in 1991 and offers Associate and Bachelor degree programs in various career fields, as well as Certificates for concentrated studies. Potomac College is uniquely devoted to serving the needs of adult learners. Working with each student individually, the college focuses on establishing the academic pathway that best satisfies individual learning needs, specific to the course of study and professional goals.
*Western Governors University is the only university in the U.S.A offering competency-based degree programs and the only non-profit, fully online university in the country. WGU offers degree programs in Business, Education, Information Technology, and Health care Professions, including Nursing.
*Capella University is accredited through The Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. Capella University develops degree programs based on professional standards and employer recommendations and offers bachelor's master's, doctorate and certificate programs for adults seeing to increase their personal and professional future.
*Excelsior College is an accredited, nonprofit online institution that focuses on removing obstacles to the educational goals of adult learners. Founded in 1971 and located in Albany, NY, Excelsior is a proven leader in the assessment of student knowledge. It offers efficient and affordable access to degree completion through multiple avenues.
*Thompson Rivers University Open Learning is the division of Thompson Rivers University that specializes in providing learners with flexible learning options, open access to education and a wide variety of course and program choices. Thompson Rivers University meets the needs of its own students and helps other institutions and organizations meet the open and online learning needs of their communities.
*Assumption College Primary Online program is Business-With 6 specialized concentrations students have the ability to focus on their skills and interests. The 6 specialized areas are Accounting, Human Resources, Graphic Design, Management, Marketing, Designer. Additionally, Assumption College has a very unique Designer concentration, which allows our students the ability to customize and design a concentration of their liking!
*Nazarene Bible College is one of 10 Nazarene institutions of higher education in the U.S. Nazarene Bible College exists to glorify Jesus Christ as Lord by preparing adults to evangelize, disciple and minister to the world. Since 1967 Nazarene Bible College has fulfilled its mission of preparing men and women for ministry through the Bachelor of Arts in Ministry and an Associate of Arts in Lay ministries degrees.
*Ashford University - The mission of Ashford University is to provide accessible, affordable, innovative, high-quality degree programs that meet the various needs of individuals pursuing education and learning in their lives, professions, and communities. Students can choose from a variety of both online and campus-based degree programs at the Associate’s, Bachelor’s, or Master’s level. *Western Governors University - Indiana is an online, competency-based university designed to expand access to higher education for Indiana residents. Established by the state of Indiana through a partnership with Western Governors University, WGU Indiana is designed to serve the needs of Indiana and surrounding residents. WGU offers more than 50 accredited bachelor’s and master’s degrees in various career fields.
*University of Akron is the public research university for Northeast Ohio. Founded in 1870, the University today serves approximately 29,300 students enrolled in University of Akrons’s 300 associate, bachelor’s, master’s, doctorate and law degree programs and certificate programs.
*American College of Dubai Established in 1991, ACD is located on a purpose-built campus in the Garhoud area of Dubai, near the Dubai International Airport and opposite the Dubai Festival City. Facilities include lecture halls, a separate library building with study areas, a major computer center and related resource rooms, including a small clinic staffed by a resident nurse. The institution offers a complete Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) qualification as well as a university transfer program designed to facilitate transfer abroad for degree completion in a variety of disciplines.
