Academic Sports League

The Academic Sports League, more commonly known as the ASL is an organization based in Erie, Pennsylvania. It is the local outlet for round one competition for The United States Academic Decathlon and consists of 22 schools from Pennsylvania and one from Ohio. There are three ASL competitions, each at a separate facility. The first always focuses on the Art, Music, and Language & Literature subjects and is held at Mercyhurst, the second focuses on Mathematics and Science and is held at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College. The third and final competition is held at Gannon University and focuses on Economics and Social Science. All the competitions contain Essay, Speech, and Interview. After the third competition, the ASL goes on a hiatus to allow the teams to study for OHAD and PAAD Regionals and States (depending on location) and will meet again in May for the annual Awards Banquet. ASL is the largest league for Acdec east of the Mississippi river and awards the most scholarship monies in the country.
