The Abhinandan moustache or Abhinandan style is a style of facial hair made popular by Indian Air Force wing-commander Abhinandan Varthaman. After being shot down in a dogfight during the 2019 India-Pakistan standoff, Varthaman was held captive for three days in Pakistan, then returned to India. Media around the world showed a photograph of him with the moustache. This sparked a trend and thousands of men in India began wearing the style. It is considered to be a symbol of bravery and tenacity. Description The style is similar to a combination old gunslinger moustache and mutton chops worn by Franz Joseph I of Austria.
