7th Moon

7th Moon is a kamishibai series published on kamishibai atelier and otaku world. So far the series is only seven episodes long and covers only origin aspects of the main characters, from their first mission as soldiers for 7th Moon to their first fight as renegades. More of the story is planned pending audience interest in the currently existing story. It was originally intended to be as an anime tribute series and the author is currently seeking a deal with a professional studio. The series was inspired by many anime action series, notably Gundam Wing and Outlaw Star and the title comes from the theme for Macross 7.

Plot
The story centers around a biotech lab located on an eponymous satellite orbiting the earth in the future. The company of 7th Moon has monopolized the food market in a desperate future with limited resources, but a few organic farmers are holding out and to seal their monopoly 7th Moon have made a small army of genetically engineered super soldiers to handle any resistance. The story focuses on a few of these soldiers who upon witnessing the destructive consequences of just one mission decide to turn traitor. Coincidentally, the traitors all end up in an old shrine where an old priest teaches them martial arts which they need to fight against 7th Moon.

Main Characters

*Hidariude
:the protagonist, a cyborg whose only cybernetic component is his left arm, which contains retractable blades made by Okazaki Masamune and powered by a special electrocyte in his arm. Initially he is a soldier who does not question orders until his partner goes traitor protecting a small boy whose father was a casualty of their mission. Investigating the motives of the mission he finds out the dark truth of 7th Moon and that many innocent lives will be lost if he does not resign. His only clue are the coordinates of a remote shrine where he learns kenjutsu and receives a Masamune katana from Masamune Ryu. His clothing is inspired by that of traditional kenjutsu trainees.

*Kichiku
:Hidariude's friend who inspires him by taking pity on a small child during a village raid. After his escape, he goes to the same shrine where Hidariude ends up and learns iron body kung fu from Masamune Ryu. He is a gentle giant with superhuman strength but is too soft-hearted to use it against any living thing unless absolutely necessary to protect a loved one. His clothing is inspired by Shaolin monks.

*Keisei
:a catgirl who was created for purposes of physical pleasure by 7th Moon scientists. The degrading life led her to escape, coincidentally at the same time as Hidariude and they begin a close personal relationship, though complicated by their own respective traumas. her feline features include her ears and her tail and otherwise appears to be a beautiful human woman. She wears a red kimono, carries a Masamune katana, and fights using a combination of kenjutsu and tessenjutsu.

*Douji
:a four-year-old boy who is in fact the strongest of the group, being the result of the ultimate perfect human genome project; however he is unaware of it and only uses his power when pushed to his limit, and then only instinctively. His mother left 7th Moon for an organic farming commune before he was born, so he does not know of his true origins. He leads Kichiku to Ryu, who he believes is his grandfather.

*Masamune Ryu
:an old man with a sordid past concerning 7th Moon. He teaches martial arts to Hidariude and his cohorts not only to fight but also to learn the discipline they need to not fight despite their abilities and find inner peace. He is a descendant of famous Japanese swordsmith Okazaki Masamune. He lives in the Shrine of the Golden Dragon.

*Renzokuken
:de facto antagonist of the series so far, he was the third member of the raiding team with Hidariude and Kichiku and the only one who does not feel remorse for the destruction they caused. He is a sniper who is unquestioningly loyal to 7th Moon.

*Seichei
:an android who is designed as a doppelganger to Hidariude and is made to be his replacement. He can transform into a larger form with a plethora of blades and is extremely deadly. He shows up late in the series, so little is known about him.

*Toromi Yoshi
:the president and CEO and de facto leader of 7th Moon. He is the evil mastermind behind the entire story.

Supporting Cast

*Baz and Aka
:a bunny girl and a speed demon respectively. Baz is similar to Keisei in appeaerance except that she's blonde and bunny like instead of a cat-like brunette; her personality is a typical ditsy blonde and is the complete opposite of Keisei. Aka was made for speed as Kichiku was made for strength, but lacks focus because his speed has made him impatient for regular speed folks, or as he calls them, slowpokes.

*Dr. Han
:a scientist who was responsible for making the bio-soldiers, he only appears briefly during Keisei's escape.

*Douji's parents
:appear very briefly, all that is known is that they worked for 7th Moon and were selected for the perfect human genome project. They died in the first episode and are seen only in flashbacks.

*Sakura
:Ryu's wife, only seen in a flashback in one episode. She was a miko who used to wield Keisei's sword and enjoyed bonsai. She is the mother of Keisei, Kichiku and surrogate mother for Hidariude, though he was not actually related to her.

*Muramasa Sasuke
:Ryu and Sakura's mentor, only seen briefly in a flashback in one episode.

Maxikami
Before the series was published, an attempt was made at condensing this story into a one-shot which was entered into the Mount Helicon kamishibai contest in 2005 and can still be found on otakuworld.com. It was the longest kamishibai ever written at the time and was dubbed a maxikami. As with many cases of one shots based on series, there were numerous differences from the current series. Storywise, Hidariude was an amnesiac, Ryu only appeared in a short flashback, Keisei was not a catgirl, and most of the story took place in the 7th Moon compound with a more ambiguous setting and the martial arts components were unexplained. There was also a shoddy attempt at a mythogical background for the story, though few readers ever actually got through the entire story due to length. It can also be noted that the art was done entirely by hand in MS Paint, whereas subsequent kamishibai from the same author/artist, including the current series, have been done in sprites.
