Karui Shosetsu Magazine

is a free online English light novel magazine published by LightNovel.org, that made its publishing debut in September of 2008. As of its publication, it is the first ever bi-monthly english light novel magazine. The magazine is aimed at young adult males and females and serializes many original OEL light novels, including the ONE LAST STAND and FACE series, and recently announced is the up-coming Cover Your Wing Over Me series.
OEL Light Novels
The magazine, unlike what might in the future be published by commerical companies, publishes original english language (OEL) light novels. That is to say, light novels written originally in english by english speaking authors and illustrated by english speaking artists. These are not fanfiction as some might assume, but original works of fiction. Needless to say, the idea seems very new to fans, but many see it as the next step in popularizing light novels in english speaking countries.
Release frequency
The magazine was published with the intent of being a bi-monthly publication, however, due to unexpected circumstances, the second issue which was supposed to have been released in November of 2008 was delayed indefinitely until further notice. However, it has been confirmed that those unexpected circumstances have now left and the second issue officially is under construction, with plans to contain a new series and even an OEL manga, as well as having more illustrators involved with the novel series' in the magazine, a major complaint by fans because of the lack of in the first issue.
Reception
The overall reception by fans in the English speaking countries such as the US and UK to the magazine has been of an overall optimistic point of view with hope for the magazine's future publications. MangaHelpers.com commented on specific series within the magazine, such as Yami no Hikari: Anrakki Rabaa, saying "The story is fun, fast paced, and seems like something a manga or anime could be made of. There are some slight hints of romantic underlying feelings between two characters. With the exception of the prologues, I felt this story was interesting and I will definitely read the next chapter." Memories-Of-Eternity.com said, "I’ll definitely be supporting the magazine in the future. As an amateur novelist and a light novel fan, I’m behind this 100%.." The magazine's reception exceeds that of simply english speaking countries and has reached the nations of Germany, Turkey, the Dutch, and even Japan. One Japanese blog commented on the magazine by saying, "This is a real great attempt. Bravo!"
