Podlet

A podlet is a small digital media file that can be embedded into one or more podcasts for playback on personal computers or portable media players.

Podlets are typically only 15-30 seconds in length and can contain any type of information. Examples of podlets may be short jokes, trivia questions, games, user feedback/comments or short Q&A sessions. Podlets are meant for the entertainment of listeners and although they may contain a notice of credit for the creator, they are not strictly promotional advertising. Podlets are generally licensed as creative commons with free distribution rights.

The podcast host (ie: podcaster) inserts chosen podlets into his/her podcast. The goal is to provide an enhanced user experience to the listening audience. The usage of podlets can make a podcast more attractive and encourage interaction with listeners.

Furthermore an author of a podlet can easily created and distribute his/her work to podcasters without having to maintain and update his/her own podcast on a regular basis. A podlet submission may contain just one funny idea or comment yet this may be inserted into multiple podcasts at the same time.

Podlets are not limited to only audio media, and may be used to distribute small videos as well to a wide range of podcasters.
