4shared

4shared is a file storage and sharing service which was founded in 2005 in Kiev, Ukraine by Alex Lunkov and Sergey Chudnovsky. Today 4shared has 5,300,234 users, 11,000,222 of daily visits, 940 TB of hosted files and 317TB of daily file transfer.
There are four main categories to store, share and browse files: video, music, photo and books.
Usage
4shared allows users to upload and download files with any web browser. The basic registration allows users to upload 10240 MB to their account. The confirmation of the registration via e-mail expands the storage space up to 15 GB. Premium users are provided with 100 GB of space to store files.
After a successful file upload, the user is given a unique URL which allows others to download the file. Uploaded files will be stored as long as the user logs-in into his/her account at least once every 30 days or at least one of the files is downloaded every 30 days. Premium accounts have no expiration period as long as the user remains a premium member. User interface is similar by functionality to standard windows explorer.
Non-registered users have to wait 20 seconds in the download queue (no CAPTCHA filling is required) and can start multiple downloads simultaneously.
Features
Users can rate files (5-star rating), share them via social media web sites, leave comments. Each user has his own customizable page with statistics. Users can also subscribe to other users accounts and follow their updates. This feature works similar to what one can see on Facebook and Twitter.
4shared has an extended search system that allows to choose specific file formats to search.

Software
4shared Desktop
4shared Desktop is a download/upload manager which supports drag&drop for files and adds an extra option to the standard contextual Windows menu which is normally called by right-clicking the file. This application supports multiupload, the synchronization feature (works in a beta mode) and optional password protection for files. Available for Microsoft Windows only.
4shared Mobile
4shared Mobile is an application similar to 4shared Desktop. It allows Symbian OS based mobile phones and iPhone users to get instant access to their accounts, manage their files and search for the new ones. User can create a list of favorite files for quick access, sort files by folders etc.
4shared Toolbar
4shared also released its' Toolbar for Internet Explorer and Firefox. This application gives a direct access to users' 4shared account and search, social media sites. 4shared Toolbar also allows to watch digital TV, listen to radio stations, check out the local weather etc.

4shared is the official trademark. 4shared users activities are regulated by 4shared Terms of Use and Privacy Policy. 4shared is pursuant to Digital Millennium Copyright Act ("DMCA").

The 4shared service provides accounts for storing only legal data. Though, 4shared doesn't take the obligation to check the account contents, but reserves the right to audit any materials that are suspected in breaking the 4shared terms of use, remove content, disable or remove the accounts of users who infringe the intellectual property rights of others or may expose 4shared to civil or criminal liability.
