4D chess is an analogy for how a political leader can win by playing a seemingly losing strategy whose subtlety escapes his opponents. An example would be manufacturing a smaller fiasco to distract the media from a larger fiasco. Another example would be a conservative politician's praising a Supreme court justice he wants to woo into retirement, while insulting more conservative justices. 4D chess can also refer to any complicated kind of endeavor. In a meeting with Donald Trump, Kanye West told a reporter, "I don't answer questions in simple sound bites. You are tasting a fine wine; it has multiple notes to it. You better play 4D chess with me like it's Minority Report."
