2017 Avignon shooting

A shooting wounded eight people near the Arrahma mosque in Avignon at 22:30 local time on Sunday 2 July 2017. Two hooded men in a Renault Clio drove up and began shooting. Four people outside the mosque were wounded while four members of a family living 50m from the scene were also injured.<ref nameguardian-eight-wounded-in-shooting-near-french-mosque/><ref nametelegraph-gunmen-open-fire-outside-avignon-mosque/><ref namebbc-eight-injured-near-french-mosque/> Two of the wounded were hospitalised.<ref namebbc-eight-injured-near-french-mosque/>

Police and prosecutors said that they did not regard it as a terrorist attack.<ref nameguardian-eight-wounded-in-shooting-near-french-mosque/><ref nametelegraph-gunmen-open-fire-outside-avignon-mosque/> Laure Chabaud, a district magistrate, claimed that the shooting was more likely to be the result of a dispute among youths.<ref name=bbc-eight-injured-near-french-mosque/>
