On July 5, 2010 at 17:47 local time (), 12 people were killed after a plane crash near Tuzla, Constanţa County, Romania. The airplane carried nine paratroopers from the Romanian Navy. Accident A Romanian Air Force Antonov An-2 belonging to the 202nd School Squadron took off from Tuzla airfield carrying 5 crew members and 9 Romanian Navy special forces personnel from the 307th Marine Battalion. Just seconds after takeoff, the plane lost height and fell to the ground. The commander of the Aurel Vlaicu Flight School, Nicolae Jianu, was killed in the crash. The plane crashed at the end of the runway. Soon after the crash, crews from the Inspectorate for Emergency situations arrived at the site. Two of the victims were found alive and are at last report in stable condition. Investigation The first data available from employees of the Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (ISU) Dobrudja, the Antonov AN-2 aircraft caught fire shortly after taking off for a training flight for parachutists on board. The Defence Minister of Romania, Gabriel Oprea appointed a technical investigation committee to investigate the crash at Tuzla. However, all AN-2 aircraft of the Romanian Air Force have been grounded until further notice.
