1egg1world

1egg1world is a fundraising initiative started in January 2009 by three Australian university students, Christopher Wright, Joshua O'Meara and Andrew Fincher Inspired by the success of Kyle MacDonald's One Red Paperclip, whereby MacDonald was able to trade from a paperclip to a house, the social entrepreneurs adopted the concept. Macdonald is aware of the project and said that "It looks like they're having fun, making trades and making a difference... a complete win all round. I heartily endorse the 1egg1world trading game and hope they succeed in full," The three students set a goal of AUS$1million and chose three low profile Australian charities that were carefully chosen to be recipients. The students wanted these charities to be 'grassroots' groups, doing some great things, who could really prosper with additional funding and awareness. These three charities were Cool Australia (an environmental awareness organisation in Australia, providing Education for Sustainable Development through Curriculum_Online), Orphfund (helping to eradicate poverty by providing education and aid for under-priverlidged children and orphans in some of the worlds poorest countries) and EarInfo Net (part of Menzies Health InfoNet ( research unit, working to find out why there are such severe problems in the hearing of Indigenous Australians) (
Starting with just one egg the trading escalated to a private 14 day African Safari for two, flights included, on February 25th 2010.
