Westchester Rockland Wood Bat League
The Westchester Rocklnad Wood Bat League (WRWBL) is an 18 and over all-wood bat semi professional baseball league serving the Metropolitan Area with teams from Westchester, Rockland, the Bronx, Manhattan and Fairfield County Connecticut. The WRWBL's lists its mission as "to provide a safe, centrally organized and highly competitive environment for current collegiate baseball players, as well as recent graduates and former professional ballplayers. A fully accredited 501.c.7 tax-exempt organization offers managers and players the confidence of financial transparency and sound management."
The WRWBL was founded as an age 18 and up aluminum bat summer recreational league by Ms. Elizabeth Vinberg. She guided the league from 1995-2000 establishing its first affiliation with the Men's Adult Baseball League (MABL). The WRWBL has had several names since and was initially known as the Westchester/Putnam Men's Adult Baseball League (WPMABL). In the coming years, the league would also be known as the Hudson Valley Men's Adult Baseball League (HVMABL) and the Westchester/Rockland National Adult Baseball League (WRNABA).
The WRWBL was the first NYC area amateur organization to adopt an all wood bat format in 2000 under the leadership of its three trustees, Chris Jones, Steve Madey, and Scott Perlman. In the years since, the league has grown to 14 teams from across the Tri-State area with more than 320 players competing each season. Approximately 98 percent of its players are currently ACTIVE or competed in an NCAA Division I, II or III program. In addition, a growing population of former Minor League players including those who competed on Major League Baseball affiliated farm teams, as well as various independent league teams are now finding long-term homes on WRWBL rosters. Currently, the WRWBL is ranked as one of the top-10 leagues in the country by the National American Semi-Pro Baseball Association.
The WRWBL is regularly covered by the region's media including The New York Times, Journal News, North County News, Patent Trader and News 12 television.
