Vincent (Silent Hill 3)

Vincent is a is a fictional character from the PlayStation 2 video game Silent Hill 3.

Background

Father Vincent is a priest of the The Order (Silent Hill's cult), but he takes a rather atypical stance on the subject of God. While he and Claudia Wolf both believe in God, they both have drastically different views on what God is, and if she can bring eternal paradise. For his part, Vincent is grounded in financial concerns and has no intention of creating any paradise.

Throughout the game, the player must rely on Vincent's advice to reach the end. He urges Heather to go to Leonard Wolf and retrieve the Seal of Metatron, which he mistakenly believes will repel the God. He also provides a book which contains important information for defeating the game.

Personality

Father Vincent is very manipulative, but he does have a strong interest in helping Heather stop God from being birthed. Vincent is often flippant, cruel, and unwilling to answer all of Heather's questions. He is also very animated when he talks, frequently gesturing with his hands and moving around. It is for these reasons that Heather regards Vincent as unpleasant and creepy.

Ending

Toward the end of the game, Vincent is in the church arguing with Claudia. After Heather interrupts the conversation, Vincent turns from Claudia and urges Heather to kill her. Claudia takes this opportunity to stab him in the back. Vincent falls to the floor and remains quiet for some time while dying. He eventually tells Heather to unleash the Seal of Metatron, but his hope is crushed when it is clear the seal has no effect this time. Claudia stabs Vincent once more, this time in the chest and leaves the knife embedded in him, [...] him.

After Claudia leaves the area in a following cutscene, Vincent's corpse is no where to be found. Whether this is simply a glitch or indicative of some alternative fate for Vincent is uncertain.

Trivia

• The voice actor for Father Vincent is also the voice actor for Jasper Gein in Silent Hill 4: The Room.
• When he talks to the protagonist, one of his eyes looks at the player, and the other looks in another direction.
• After the initial cutscene when Vincent dies, if the player examines his corpse, Heather will express some regret for not attempting to save him, though she hated him.
