Vibhav Kant Upadhyay

Vibhav Kant Upadhyay (born December 10, 1969) is an Indian development leader. He is currently the chairman of India Center Foundation. He is also the founder and director general of India Japan Global Partnership (IJGP). He is best known for his support to establish better relations between India & Japan. IJGPS was the first EDition of Global Partnership Summit (GPS).

Early Life & Education

Vibhav was born in Agra. His father Prof. R.K. Upadhyay, was a professor at the University Of Allahabad with a specialization in Quantum Physics and has acquired M.Sc degrees in Physics and Chemistry. His mother Mrs. Shailendra Upadhyay has an M.A in Music and aesthetics, M.A in Hindi. Vibhav did his schooling from Uttar Pradesh board and graduated from University of Allahabad. He also has a post-graduate degree from the University of Allahabad. He has another post graduate degree from the University of Tokyo, TRON laboratory, headed by professor Ken Sakamura. Upadhyay is prolific in Japanese language besides Hindi and English.

India-Japan Global Partnership Summit (IJGPS)

Year 2000

India-Japan Global Partnership Forum 2010 is an initiative by Vibhav and India Center Foundation with a mission of Two Nations One Goal. The framework of India- Japan Global Partnership (IJGP) , is being taken forward through the institutionalized platform of India-Japan Global Partnership Summit. It is considered a historical initiative which has opened up a new chapter in India Japan relations. He had persuaded Hon. Yoshirō Mori the prime minister of Japan to visit India in 2000.

Year 2009

The manifestation of Upadhyay's thought process and leadership can be seen in the macro initiative, Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC), which was formed to re-establish the industrial culture of India. He is involved in contemplating, proclaiming, incubating, incorporation and execution of solutions for socio-economic challenges that will help the nations be more Energy efficient, Environmentally responsible and achieve Sustainable developments. Hon. Yukio Hatoyama on his visit to India in 2009, signed an agreement to create a Project Development Fund between Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (DMICDC) and Japan External Trade Organization to create eco-friendly townships along the Delhi-Mumbai corridor.

Year 2011

The India-Japan global partnership (IJGP) summit was held in the Prince Park Tower, Tokyo from September 5 to 7, 2011. The ‘India-Japan Global Partnership' initiative was announced in the year 2000 by the former Prime Minister of India, Hon. Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Vibhav Kant Upadhyay has established the IJGP initiative and is therefore, widely regarded as the architect of modern India-Japan relationship. He has nurtured and strengthened the strategic relationship between the two nations.

Upadhyay addressed the IJGPS Opening Ceremony in 2011 with the notable speakers Hon. Shinzō Abe (Prime minister of Japan), Mukesh Ambani (The Indian Businessman), Yoshirō Mori (Former prime minister of Japan), Sam Pitroda, Yukio Hatoyama (Former prime minister of Japan), Naoto Kan (Former prime minister of Japan), Bhupinder Singh Hooda (Chief Minister of Haryana), Alok Prasad (Ambassador of India to Japan) and others.

Legacy

Upadhyay's leadership is now further focused on mega initiatives including but not limited to the Renewable Energy Initiative (REI), Healthcare Corporation of India (HCI),the Smart Knowledge and Agriculture Corridor (SKAC), the Trans Asian Buddhist Circuit(TABC), and the Smart Cities Initiative (SCI). Under his aegis, the leadership of India and Japan supported the unique partnership between the cities of Varanasi and Kyoto, which attempts to make Varanasi a Heritage Smart City in lines of Kyoto.

Upadhyay has envisaged a new framework where India and Japan along with their Global Partners, could converge their respective strengths and contribute to progress, stability and economic vitality in an ever-dynamic world constitution. His unique initiatives are well supported, appreciated and encouraged by top most policy makers, business and opinion leaders from India, Japan and from countries around the world.
