Valerie Geller
Valerie Geller is an American radio consultant. In 2007, trade magazine Radio Ink listed her as one of the "50 Most Influential Women in Radio".
Geller works with stations that emphasize news and talk. She regularly guest lectures at the Graduate School of Journalism at both The New York University and Columbia University in New York City.
Geller has authored several textbooks on the subject of news and news/talk radio.
AM radio changeover
Geller was instrumental in the sea-change in the AM radio band, in the late 1970s and 1980s that occurred in the United States. At that time stations that made their mark playing popular music needed programming that would differentiate them from the much cleaner sounding FM band, which was better suited for stereo sounds that music producers were creating. The news and news/talk format is widely regarded as programming that "saved" the AM band, and kept many of these stations broadcasting.
International influence
In the late 1980s early 1990s, after the fall of the Soviet Union, Geller was consulted to help various nations develop the air talent and staff for their upstart news and news/talk stations.
Other Radio Work
Geller’s own on-air career in radio includes stints as a talk show host, anchor and reporter for Los Angeles FMs KOST and KRTH, as well as KTAR-AM/Phoenix and KOA-AM/Denver. Ms. Geller was one of the principals who successfully helped move KFI-AM Los Angeles from a music format to Talk. She’s also served as program director of WABC-AM in New York City.
As an international broadcast consultant, Geller has worked with Reuters and the Associated Press, and served on the broadcast board of directors of the Associated Press in 1986. Geller has worked with Univision Radio, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, The British Broadcasting Corporation, and The South African Broadcasting Corporation.

Creating Powerful Radio
Media Trainer John Beaupre' author of The Broadcast Voice says,
"Valerie Geller has trained and inspired a generation of broadcasters. It may be a bit of an exaggeration to say that she âinventedâ talk radio, but clearly, there are few people in the world who can make as strong a claim to shaping, forming, and producing what has come to be known as âtalk radioâ. She regularly consults on radio format and production at stations in Singapore, Malaysia, and Australia, as well as across the U.S., Canada and Europe.
From my perspective, what Valerie brings to any discussion of radio is not only her encyclopedic knowledge of the medium and her sound, practical advice, but also her inspirational âgo-get-âemâ approach.
