Up and rising

Up-&-Rising is an alternative music concert which was first held in 2007 at The Point, Cardiff Bay. From then on it has been held annually to promote local talent in the South Wales area.

The name “Up-&-Rising” is based upon the artists which are chosen to perform at the event are on the - Up and Rising.

Since the event started in 2007, it has been organised in conjunction with Radio Glamorgan to raise money for both Radio Glamorgan and Teenage Cancer Trust – Both charities having a direct link with the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff. The event has attracted a lot of attention from alternative/rock generic bands in the South Wales area who are looking for a chance to perform in front of potential fans.

Mini Rising was hosted on a smaller scale to the standard Up-&-Rising gigs. The event has the same ethos as the standard Up-&-Rising events but it was hosted in a smaller venue (Than the previous events) with Half the number of bands (3 bands instead of 6).

Future

The future of Up-&-Rising is uncertain due to the closure of the Point, Cardiff Bay due to rising debts. The venue which was used for previous Up-&-Rising events closed on Friday 27th February 2009 and despite many petitions to re-open the Point, the doors to the venue still remain closed.

Awards

The 2007 Up-&-Rising event was broadcast live on Radio Glamorgan on Sunday 17 April with an hour highlights show broadcast later in the month. The event was submitted by organiser and presenter of Radio Glamorgan Jamie Pritchard into the category of 'Special Event' at the National Hospital Broadcasting Association Awards
On Saturday 29 March 2008, At the Queens Hotel in Leeds, The event was awarded Silver in the category of special event. It was the first piece of national silverware the Radio Station had been awarded in its then 41 year history.
