United Precious Metals Association

The United Precious Metals Association is a Utah-based non-profit dedicated to offering its members gold and/or silver denominated accounts. UPMA was founded shortly after the passage of the Utah Legal Tender Act in 2011. This Act explicitly recognizes the circulation of U.S minted legal tender gold and silver coins as a non-taxable event. Only Utah and Oklahoma have legal tender laws on the books.

Several notable people have openly endorsed UPMA's effort to remonetize legal tender gold and silver including Utah's current Attorney General Sean Reyes and 2016 candidate for governor and Overstock chairman Jonathan Johnson.

UPMA stores gold and silver for their membership and allows for the use of a debit card so that members may transact against their account. Brinks is the main vaulting company used. Audits are conducted by a member elected board of directors that publish their results at the annual convention.
