Deborah Hurwitz
Deborah Hurwitz is an award-winning American composer, conductor and singer/songwriter. She is best known for her work with the internationally acclaimed Cirque du Soleil and the Tony Award-winning Broadway MusicAL Jersey Boys. She has also worked on multiple Broadway, Off-Broadway and touring musicals, on numerous films and television shows, and with notable musicians including Cyndi Lauper, Cher, Gloria Estefan, Marc Shaiman, Sarah Brightman, Sinead O'Connor, and Johnny Mathis.
Early life and influences
Hurwitz trained as a concert pianist and played her first major solo debut at the age of 12. She graduated summa cum laude from Princeton University with a Bachelor of Arts in Music Theory and Composition.
Career
Composer
Hurwitz has scored a diverse range of films, interactive media, and live shows. She co-composed a new musical comedy with Jason Alexander based on the classic recording When You're In Love, The Whole World Is Jewish, co-composed an original aerial musical with America's Got Talent's On The Fly Productions which opened the Batvia Fine Arts Centre's 2015–16 season. The musical received rave reviews.
Commercially, Hurwitz has written, arranged and produced music for national commercial campaigns including Old Navy and Capital One, and television shows including Sesame Street, The Tonight Show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, America's Got Talent, Bravo's Million Dollar Listing, and Guiding Light, amongst others.
In late 2016, she was composing the music and lyrics for a new aerial musical called Petalwink.
Conductor
Hurwitz conducted for the Broadway musicals Miss Saigon and Mamma Mia! for several years before conducting and performing with the Broadway company of Jersey Boys for its first six years in production. In 2011, she left to serve as the Music Director for Cirque du Soleil's IRIS: Journey Through the World of Cinema with an orchestral score composed by Danny Elfman. She continued to launch and maintain six companies of Jersey Boys worldwide as the production's Music Technical Designer. She was also the Music Supervisor for the Off-Broadway cult hit Bedbugs: It's a Musical.
She currently serves as the Music Supervisor on movie-turned-rock musical Bottle Shock.
Singer/Songwriter
Hurwitz has released two independent albums as her alter ego Deborah Marlowe. She has performed on The Tonight Show, The Late Show with David Letterman, The Tony Awards at Radio City Music Hall and twice at the White House. Notably, she has toured with Cyndi Lauper, Cher, and Mamma Mia!
She has also served as an associate professor at the Berklee College of Music and taught master classes at Lincoln Center and USC's Thornton School of Music.
She is recording her third solo album.
Hurwitz also works with the organization Music for Autism, which provides autism-friendly, interactive concerts developed specifically for individuals with autism and their families.

Awards and nominations
Hurwitz is the Music Technical Designer, Associate Conductor, and Synth Programmer for the Broadway musical Jersey Boys, in addition to originating her onstage role. The musical won a Tony Award in 2006 for Best New Musical, a Grammy Award in 2007 for Best Cast Album, and an Olivier Award in 2009 for Best New Musical.
Hurwitz was the Vocal Director for the ABC Muppet Special soundtrack Elmopalooza! which won a Grammy Award for Best Children's Album in 1999.
She was also the Composer for MTV Winter Lodge which won the ProMax BDA Gold Award for Broadcast Design.
