UBSRCtv
UBSRCtv, also known as UBtv, is an on-line video streaming television technology, an emerging medium of communication that is also known as ‘internet television’, it is a medium of communication that is becoming more and more popular in many universities today. However, in spite of the growing popularity of the medium there are still a number of people especially in the developing world who are not familiar with internet television. UBSRCtv will be bringing this form of technology to be first in Botswana in addition to elevating the University of Botswana to be a leading academic centre of excellence in Africa and the world over. This platform was founded by a young Boikanyo Kenny Dithole a fourth year single major environmental Science student under the leadership of Boitumelo Ntsima; the then minister in Information and publicity in the SR Council of the University of Botswana in the year 2012.
The UBSRCtv channel seek to join forces with existing modes of communication around campus. These include Trail-fm online radio station that has shown great deal of interest in working to create a vibrant communication hub befitting an institution of UB status. "We intend to resuscitate the use of television and LCD network around the campus with home grown programmes specific to our students. We have liaised with sports office to rejuvenate their entertainment pots which have been neglected due to lack of manpower and limitations in technical expertise, and we seek to consolidate them into the UBSRCtv project". Boikanyo Kenny Dithole "Like in other countries where these technology has been embraced e.g. Harvard university, we intend to offer academic footages from different faculties and disciplines. The project has been on pilot since 1st August, and it started operating on 1st September and it has successfully covered several events on campus, including the first student body meeting, Student coc thumbnail ktail dinner and the UB fresher’s ball of 2012.
