Tyler Asemota
Tyler Asemota (born April 9, 1999) is a Track & Field athlete and American football wide receiver for Notre Dame High School located in Sherman Oaks, California.
High school
Asemota currently attends Notre Dame High School and has been a student there for all four years. Living in Reseda, California most of his life, Asemota looked up to many high profile athletes from Notre Dame High School, such as Koa Farmer, Khalfani Muhammed, and notable alumni Giancarlo Stanton. Asemota found late interest in football during his sophomore year when a football coach approached him during a track meet because of his outstanding BLEND of height and speed. The same coach, Calvin Taylor, then had Asemota playing wide receiver and free safety for him that season in 2014.
After a dominant first season of football, Asemota received many scholarships from Division-1 programs such as Oregon State, Brigham Young University, Hawaii, Wyoming, San Diego State, Montana, Fresno State and a few others. Considered a three-star recruit by Scout.com, he was rated as the 21st best wide receiver prospect in California.
After a tough loss to Oaks Christian during junior year, Asemota suffered a right hand injury which restricted him from play and unfortunately led to absence of the remainder of the season. Popularity re-gained for the young star in the summer of 2016, when LA Times writer, Eric Sondheimer, featured Asemota in an article after an outstanding performance at a 7-on-7 tournament in Oxnard, California.
College Recruiting
After an outstanding performance at an Oregon State's satellite camp in the summer of 2016, Asemota receives his first pac-12 offer to Oregon State University on the spot from the coaching staff. Although Asemota never visited the campus, he was fascinated with the plan that the Oregon State coaches had for recruiting and future success, he decides to commit. On September 18, 2016 Asemota accepts head coach, Gary Andersen's, scholarship offer and verbally commits to play football at Oregon State University. Towards the end of Asemota's senior season, at the time, wide receiver coach, Brent Brennan, leaves Oregon State and accepts the head coach position at San Jose State. This change of staff led Asemota to de-commit from OSU and weigh out his other options.
After deciding to de-commit, Asemota takes many college recruiting trips to different universities such as Brigham Young University, San Diego State, Arizona State, Wyoming, Colorado, and Hawaii.
The day before football National Signing Day Asemota stuns many college coaches and fans with a brave decision. Asemota writes on Twitter, "I will be discontinuing my career in football and pursue my dreams on the track." Asemota then states that he will be committing to UCLA, who extended him a track & field offer right before National Signing Day on February 1, 2017.
Track & Field
Asemota has ran 10.40 wind legal in the 100 meter dash which took place during a Mission League dual meet versus Harvard Westlake, which led the entire state of California for a long period of time. Asemota was a member of the Division-III winning CIF track and field team at Notre Dame High School in 2015 as well as 2016. A standout since freshman year, Asemota has gained much popularity locally as the "next Usain", in reference to Jamaican Olympic 100 and 200 meter record holder, Usain Bolt.

Tyler's father is fashion designer Elliot Tommy Asemota, creator of FP Jeans. His mother, Darlyn Asemota, resides in Los Angeles, California. Both parents are of Nigerian descent.
