American Association for Hispanics in Higher Education
The American Association of Hispanics in Higher Education (AAHHE) addresses issues and concerns affecting Hispanics, particularly those related to higher education. Despite being the largest ethnic minority population and a major driver of overall population growth in the U.S., Hispanics remain underrepresented in undergraduate and graduate enrollments, graduation rates, faculty positions (especially in the tenure-track and senior-level ranks), and in higher education administration.
To effect change in American higher education, AAHHE is committed to:
- Addressing societal issues as they pertain to the growing population.
- Convening public discourse focused forums to develop public policy reflecting the changing demographics of our nation.
- Preparing more Hispanics to pursue a career in higher education as faculty, administrators, and policy makers.
To achieve these goals, AAHHE has a variety of initiatives and programs, including its annual conference which features the Tomás Rivera Lecture and its Awards Luncheon to honor Hispanics in higher education and national leaders. AAHHE also sponsors a Latino/a Graduate Fellows Program; an Outstanding Dissertation Competition in partnership with the Educational Testing Service; the Caminos Thesis Competition in Food and Agricultural Sciences in partnership with Texas State University; and the New Leadership Academy in partnership with the National Forum on Higher Education for the Public Good.
