Tonic Inc. is a media company headquartered in Mountain View, California, with offices in New York City, New York.
Founded by Pankaj Shah in 2006, Tonic is currently comprised of three online divisions: Tonic News, Precycle, and Tonic Shop.
Originally founded as Greendimes Inc, the company was rebranded as "Tonic Incorporated" in October 2008 to reflect the growing online presence of its news division.
Tonic describes its brand as “curators of anything morally, mentally, or physically inspiring.”
Tonic News
Tonic News reports and focuses on the positive elements of the news-cycle, covering the "good news" that happens every day around the world. Its particular take on the news is unique in that it focuses on positive news.
Precycle
Precycle is a junk mail reduction service that unsubscribes customers from direct mailing lists. Precycle (formally Greendimes) had many early and notable adopters, including Matt Damon. With each new subscription a tree is planted to help offset deforestation; applying the idea of "precycling" to junk mail reduction. Other competitors in this space are 41punds.org and Directmail.com.
Tonic Shop
Tonic has partners with designers including Luella Bartley, Abigail Disney, Alex and Ani, and Donna Karan to sell socially conscious products through its store.
Distribution
Tonic News is syndicated to the The Huffington Post, Current TV, the Discovery Channel's Planet Green, Divine Caroline, Causecast and Intent.com.
Investment and Finance
Tonic completed its series-A funding in July of 2007 raising $20.5M in venture capital funding from Tudor Ventures.
Board of Creators
Tonic's mission has drawn some of the world's leaders in the business, political, entertainment, philanthropy and entertainment sectors to get involved. These include individuals such as Walt Freese, Donna Karan, Jennifer Buffet, Peter Buffet, David Siminoff, Ellen Siminoff, Chris Blackwell, Dr. Frank Lipman and Whitney Williams.
