Early life
Terry Jason Mizell was born on March 7, 1991, in Jamaica Estates, Queens. After the death of his father in 2002, Mizell moved to the suburbs of Northern Virginia where he spent 10 years until moving back to NYC on his own. During his time in Virginia, Mizell played drums in a rock band and even received visits from "Darryl McDaniels" to watch him play, stated by Mizell in a Breakfast Club Interview. The young Mizell didn't begin seriously crafting his Turntable skills until he began visiting NYC during the summers of his High School years to practice at the Scratch DJ Academy which was Founded by his father Jam Master Jay. Mizell continued DJing and making music in college for two years before moving back to NYC to intern at the Scratch DJ Academy where he established his identity as professional DJ.
MusicAL career
TJ Mizell has been an instrumentalist since he was young, playing in bands with the school and his friends. Mizell got one of his first starts as a professional DJ doing parties with the Scratch DJ Academy. After only a few professional gigs in NYC, Mizell was DJing at the Made In America Festival in 2012 with Run-DMC. TJ continues to come out during Run-DMC sets to perform a tribute routine for his father and fallen member of the band Jam Master Jay. Mizell started producing Scratch routine videos in the streets of New York. The first video he put out was released on March 5, 2012. In this video, TJ is Scratching over a A$AP Mob remixed song in 20-degree weather. Two years later TJ & A$AP Ferg run into each other backstage during a Drake concert in Brooklyn, Ferg mentioned to TJ that he thought the video routine was cool and wanted him to be his DJ. Two months later Mizell gets a call from Ferg asking him he has a passport and that they have a show in Poland in two days. Mizell is currently still the tour DJ for A$AP Ferg. Mizell went on to produce another Scratch routine, this time it was on the J Train on his way to the Marcy stop. This routine quickly took notice from the DJ community and received over 100k on Mizell's YouTube page. Mizell partnered with Serato to produce another Train video where this time he brought a mob of people to the First Avenue L Train, and they partied on their way to Brooklyn. Mizell has produced collaborative Jam Master Jay tribute scratch routine videos with DJ Scratch & Skratch Bastid. Mizell launched a Record Label in 2016 called Doperoots and released his debut single as a Artist, "Seasons".
