The People's Games
The People's Games is a festival that combines interval gaming, high-energy teamwork, sport, art, and music. The multi-day event takes place on the 2nd weekend of July annually. The venue is outdoors within a 45-minute drive of downtown Montreal, Quebec. The games have a different theme each year. Teams are visually synchronized through their uniforms, props and costumes.
History
In February 2012, Ian Ellemo conceived a concept which eventually lead to the creation of the Man Olympics event. 12 teams of 4 people competed against one another over the course of one weekend in July 2014. There was over 150 attendees including MusicAL and artistic performers, all for the benefit of a local charity. $2400 was raised for the James Ratcliffe Scholarship Fund. In 2014, due to a conflict of interest, the event was re-named "The People’s Games".
Description
Participants create teams of 4 - 2 men, and 2 women - and partake in a two-day event where they compete in multiple challenges. One winning team is awarded The People’s Games trophy annually. The participants camp out during the event on grounds located adjacent to the games area. The People's Games showcases Djs, Bands, Musician's, Painters, Sculptors and other various artistic performers. Participants are urged to take part in the sustainability of the grounds by cleaning up and removing any waste they have created over the course of the weekend. With a focus on community, a new charitable organization is donated to every year.
Gaming Structure
Participants compete in 14 unique qualifying events that challenge a vast skill set. The top 10 seeded teams after the 14 qualifying events will face off in the 15th and final event entitled; "The People’s Game".
