The International Business Development Institute

The International Business Development Institute is the global, non-profit organization that administers and awards the CBD and CIBD Charter. The organization is grounded on the belief that as the globalization of economies, societies, and cultures continues, and nations become more integrated through networks of exchange, business development will evolve best if the industry adopts and maintains a sustainable level of ethics, standards, and knowledge that resonates across all cultures.

Through the normal processes of trade, economic development, foreign direct investment (FDI), capital flows, migration, and the advancement of technology in undeveloped nations, business development will also evolve. In order to achieve sustainable global business development, IBDI works with every nation. It support 217 nations and all 50 states, mor than the United Nations, and it asserts a high level of ethics, standards, and knowledge through its Societies.

IBDI is the governing body for the International business development Institute of Asia, which is part of a professional community that is poised for substantial and sustainable growth. The business development industry is a specialized field of commerce that penetrates existing markets, and often CREATES new ones, by introducing new products and services to businesses, individuals, non-profit organizations, and government agencies. IBDI is committed to helping business development professionals make this introduction in an ethical manner.

IBDI comprises some of the world's top Harvard, MIT, and Fulbright scholars who administer the CBD and CIBD Charter Programs. The curriculum is grounded in practice, and is based on an ongoing assessment of needs within the business development industry. Dr. Benjamin Bolger, PhD Harvard University, is the Executive Director of Academics, and Fulbright Scholar A. Reza Hoshmand is the Executive Director of International Development. Both programs require candidates to master topics in ethics, philosophy, economics, marketing, politics, management, and technology. The examinations incorporate broad-based graduate-level knowledge from these topics in order to evaluate a candidates ability to assess business and marketing opportunities, intelligence-gathering techniques, design formal proposals and presentations, and develop business model designs. The examinations also cover marketing, information management, knowledge management, finance, legal aspects, and advertising as it affects business development and associated cultures and economies.

A primary focus of the programs is ethics and standards as they pertain to business practices and legalities of strategic relationships, licensing, partnering, intellectual property, emerging technologies, fair practices, and cultural differences.

IBDI's goal is to promote the highest level of ethical standards, support individual performance, and reward academic achievement. By strategically establishing and maintaining the direction of the business development industry, the organization creates a professional environment that serious business development professionals, corporations, non-profit organizations, and government agencies appreciate, respect, and contribute to. IBDI operates under the belief that self-regulatory standards and high ethics are vital to the successful evolution of the global business development profession.
