The Head that Wouldn't Die!

The Head that Wouldn't Die! by playwright Rand Higbee, is a tongue-in-cheek send-up of the 1940-1960's sci-fi/horror genre in American cinema. The plot revolves around the four archetypes: two female - the brain and the beauty; and two male - the jock and the nerd.

Characters

  • Janice Arden: The brain - a scientist determined to cure her migraines.
  • Penny Taylor: The beauty - Janice's roommate and comic foil.
  • Glen Logan: The Jock - the typical good-looking frat-boy with a head for jokes.
  • Luke Lacombe: The Nerd - a daydreaming scientist who spends too much time looking for UFOs.

Other characters:

  • Flora March: The nosy neighbor looking for her next bowling fix.
  • Pete Verdon: The detective who is determined to crack the mystery.
  • B7: A robot.

Stagings

The Head that Wouldn't Die! was first work-shopped by the Ames Dinner Theatre out of Ellsworth, Wisconsin.

After some additional script-work and a reading at the 14th Annual Last Frontier Theatre Conference in Valdez, Alaska, the play was staged for a single performance at the conference the following year. Based on the audience reaction, the play was selected for a run at Cyrano's Off-Center PlayHouse to an Anchorage, Alaska audience in 2008.

It is currently in rehearsal at Ridgewater College in Willmar, Minnesota and will be performed April 22nd-April 25th.

Additional Information

The play was submitted in 2008 to Cheshire Comedy Publishing's play-writing contest The Funniest Play on Earth where it was chosen as one of eight finalists. At this time, the winners have not been chosen.
