The farther I look behind me the better I like it.
I guess we all have a story to tell.I am not Earnets Helmingway but neither is most of the folks on TV todayNor am I an English teacher at Harvard.Do they have a monopoly on story telling? If not .I will share some of my past with anyone who may not have had the same experiences. I lived on a dirt road about a mile and one half from a little town in East Texas. We were poor compared to Howard Hughes but we never though nothing of it.Mainly because it was awhile untill we got a TV that could get Houston.Once you see the rich on TV you begin to become depressed. But I found jobs even in junior high through the summers. I bought a beautiful 36 Chevy coupe for fifty bucksWorking on the rice farm.I had my dad pull it home from the junk yard because the crankshaft was bad.The road was wider at our house so I got him to let me park on the sire of the road.I made sure I got the radio working. They had a vibrator to create pulse DC.Much like AC.I put one in ,It came on.I went to Billups station and bought steering and a gearshif knob.Had a pretty girls picture on them. I bought a cowboy corral with suction cups that goes on the dash. I had a Case pocket knife to put in it.Then school started again. After I walked home from school I went and sit in my car.Turned onthe radio. I waited. After thirty minutes the prettiest girl in school came by on a horse. She did it every day after school.I heard Buddy Holly on the radio,I kinda turned up.Here she came.I heard the horse go clop clop clop. Then I looked out the window. There she was. I said ,Howdy. I kind of grinned. She looks down and said ,Howdy. Then she just kept going. It was a big day in my life. A lot has happened since then.Eventually the guy on the county grader said I would need to drag the car to the back in the pasture. But once I did I had no use for the car.I sold it for twenty five dollars. Today it would be worth no less that ten thousand bucks. Later on I joined the army and went to Vietnam. It was a disaster for me,The army and the country. So as this story may be. When I got back home the girl was married to a guy who was in rodeos. I guess I should have bought a horse. But that is how life is. You never know what you needed to know untl you look back and see where the mistakes were. There is a benefit to these things .I never had enough power to do much harm.Unless this story does it.
