Syed Akbar Ali is a former banker, writer, Economic Consultant and businessman who is becoming increasingly well known in Malaysia as the author of two books 'To Digress A Little' (July 2005) and 'Malaysia And The Club Of Doom' (September 2006) which have stirred up much discussion and debate AbOUT the fate of the country's majority Malays and Muslims.

Despite his IDeaS and frank observations being ignored by the mainstream Government controlled media, Syed's two books are becoming increasingly influential among the intelligentsia and political leadership in Malaysia. The alternative media particularly Malaysian Blog sites have reviewed and discussed his writings in detail.

Educated in management and engineering from the United States, Syed is married and has two sons. According to his two books, Syed's progressive and modern views are strongly influenced by a close reading of the Quran.

He once went contrary to the religious establishment in Malaysia, along with a few other Malaysian writers, for expressing progressive views which were Frowned Upon by the orthodox schools.

In his first book, Syed has also commented on Malaysia's economic and industrial development and outlines a bold plan to take Malaysia to the next level of post industrial development.

Politically Syed has identified with the ruling United Malays National Organisation or UMNO party but at age 46 years old and without holding any important posts in the party his contributions to Malaysia may remain in his writing.
