Suzanne Devlin
Suzanne Devlin is a minor character in the Sweet Valley High book series.
Character
Suzanne was the daughter of Tom and Felicia Devlin. Tom was an ambassador; Felicia, a socialite. The Devlin family resided in New York City.
Suzanne first appeared in SVH#11, "Too Good to Be True." She entered the Wakefields' life after old college roommates Tom Devlin and Ned Wakefield decided to have their daughters visit each other's households over their spring vacation. Jessica was the twin eventually chosen to go to New York, while Elizabeth stayed in Sweet Valley to host Suzanne.
Initially, Suzanne seemed too good to be true; gorgeous, sweet and intelligent. Half the boys in Sweet Valley fell for her, and she and Liz became good friends. However, Liz soon began to notice inconsistencies in her new friend's behavior. Then her lavaliere went missing....
Suzanne had set her sights on Roger Collins, the handsome English teacher, and volunteered to baby-sit his son as part of her plan to seduce him. When he rebuked her advances, she callously claimed that he'd tried to [...] her.
Liz was torn between her new friend and her favorite teacher. However, she discovered Suzanne's treachery when she found her missing necklace in Suzanne's suitcase. That night, at Lila Fowler's birthday party, Suzanne raged at Winston Egbert after he spilled punch on her dress. Finally, everyone saw what Suzanne Devlin was really like.
Months later, Suzanne returned to Sweet Valley, contrite and apologetic. Nobody was willing to accept her apologies, especially Jessica, who was looking out for her sister's welfare. Eventually the reason for Suzanne's change of attitude was dramatically revealed: she'd been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, a disease which had killed her grandmother and aunt. Fortunately, it was later revealed that she'd been misdiagnosed and had been experiencing complications from an undetected case of mononucleosis.
This second visit solidified Elizabeth and Suzanne's friendship. Additionally, Todd Wilkins, Elizabeth's ex-boyfriend, was by Suzanne's side throughout this hard time. The two had met at a ski resort near his Burlington home; reunited in Sweet Valley during this Christmas vacation, they grew close.
