'''Sunderland''' were one of the first teams to sign up to the newly established British Universities American Football League in the 2007 - 2008 season.
The team, previously known as the Sunderland Kings, had been asked to change to university colours and as well as a new regime in coaching staff it was decided that a New Era was to begin with a name change to go along with the mix.
The team currently play in navy and orange kit which matches the University of Sunderland's Sport colours and also shows the new direction the club wanted to take under new Head Coach Ross Elliott.
At present the team play in the Northern Conference, North Eastern Division of the Britiish Universities American Football League and are in the same league as the Newcastle Raiders, UT Cougars, Hull Sharks and Durham Saints.
