Steve’s Blinds and Wallpaper is a Michigan-based blinds, shutters, shades, wallpaper, wallcovering and draperies retailer. The company is headquartered in Sterling Heights, Michigan, and ships products across the United States and Canada. The company was founded by Steve Katzman, and his father, Paul Katzman.
History
Steve’s Blinds & Wallpaper has family roots that began over 55 years ago. Steve’s father, Paul Katzman, and grandfather, Hyman Katzman, started a company called Kay & Kay Tile on 7 Mile & Evergreen Rd. in Detroit, Michigan. At the age of 10, Steve began working at Kay & Kay Tile stores on the weekends and during the summer months. Steve joined the company fulltime after receiving a business degree from the University of Michigan and law degree from Wayne State University. Over the years special order blinds and wallpaper became a significant portion of Kay & Kay Tile’s overall sales. In 1986, Steve & his family, capitalizing on the expertise they gained in special order blinds and wallpaper, expanded to Illinois. Once in Illinois, they founded a retail chain called Mrs. Kay’s Wallpaper, Blinds & More and launched a mail order company called American Blind and Wallpaper Factory. By 1993 Steve and his family had opened over 30 retail stores between Michigan and Illinois and American Blinds and Wallpaper was processing in excess of over 300,000 consumer orders annually.
In 1993 the Katzmans sold all three companies and everyone but Steve retired. Steve stayed on to run the companies with its new owners. Over the next 13 years Steve and the new owners focused on the American Blind & Wallpaper Factory brand and significantly grew the company by introducing it to World Wide Web. The company grew to become the largest direct response company in the United States for special order blinds and wallpaper by processing over 600,000 orders annually and employing over 600 employees. In May of 2006 American Blinds & Wallpaper was sold, and Steve decided to leave the company to spend time with his family.
In 2006 Steve and his father decided to put their combined experience of over 75 years in the home decorating business back to work again, and in December of 2006 Steve’s Blinds & Wallpaper was born. Steve’s Blinds & Wallpaper offers a large assortment of first quality name brand blinds and wallpaper through its internet website www.stevesblindsandwallpaper.com and its showroom located in Sterling Heights, Michigan. Steve’s Blinds and Wallpaper currently has an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau.
