Stephanie Alioto Wilhelm
Stephanie Alioto Wilhelm (died February 27, 1996) was an American art teacher and a preservationist. She was the sister of the former San Francisco mayor Joseph Alioto.
Early life and education
Wilhelm was born in North Beach and was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate from the University of California. She also received a master's degree from the same alma mater.
Career
Wilhelm served as a member of the San Francisco's Landmarks Preservation Board. She was responsible for establishing the Exploratorium and the Performing Arts Theater at the Palace of Fine Arts.
She was also the founder of the Museo ItaloAmericano; focused on Sicilian heritage and literature.
Stephanie Alioto Wilhelm served as a professor of art and art history at the Lone Mountain College.
Death
She died of a cardiac arrest on Sunday, February 27, 1996 and was survived by her husband, Raymond; a daughter, Maria Wilhelm; a son, Raymond Wilhelm; her brother, Joseph Alioto, and sisters, Antoinette Scarpulla and Angelina Presti; and a granddaughter, Stephanie Wilhelm. Her son, Laurence, died in 1987.
