State Road 505 (Florida)
An 8.5-mile-long north-south road locally known as 66th Avenue, the former State Road 505 (now Indian River County Road 615) crosses some of the orange-growing region and a suburban development of Indian River County, Florida. The southern terminus is an intersection with Osceola Boulevard (SR 60) just west of Vero Beach, next to Indian River Mall and Vista Plantation Golf Course. The northern terminus of the former State Road is an intersection with Wabasso Road (former SR 510, current CR 510) just south of Sebastian.
One mile to the east and paralleling the former SR 505 is the longer (11-miles) State Road 505A (current Indian River County Road 613), locally known as Kings Highway (not to be confused with SR 713 near Fort Pierce) and 58th Avenue. The southern terminus of CR 613 is an intersection with Oslo Road (west of the end of former SR 606, current CR 606); the northern terminus of the former SR 505A is an intersection with Wabasso Road near Wabasso.
The Primary use of both former State Roads is to provide access to the orange groves of Indian River County, one of the primary growing regions of juice oranges in the United States. The southern ends of both County Roads show much of the urbanization that has characterized the fast-growing Atlantic coast of central and southern Florida.
Some maps incorrectly identify Roseland Road, Indian River County Road 505 adjacent to Sebastian Municipal Airport, as a former alignment of SR 505. County Road 505 serves both Roseland and Sebastian as it follows the course of the Sebastian River from US 1 (SR 5) to Fellsmere Road (former SR 512 and current CR 512).
