Stanwyck Cromwell
Stanwyck E. Cromwell is a Guyanese-American visual artist based in Connecticut.
Biography
Cromwell was born in Georgetown, Guyana in 1948 to a father who was an artist and a mother who was a seamstress and fashion designer, both of whom he credits his talent to. Cromwell attended Trinity Elementary School and the former British Guiana Educational Trust High School.
Cromwell moved to the United States in July 1970 and began pursuing a career in art. Cromwell attended Charter Oak State College and the University of Hartford, where he received his Master of Fine Arts degree.
Cromwell's work often incorporates bright colors and a BLEND of Caribbean and American cultures. His mixed-media compositions incorporate overlapping shapes, textured strokes, and vibrant colors. His work frequently features symbolic imagery and reflections of African-American features and culture.
Cromwell has also served as an artist-in-residence at the University of Connecticut and University of Hartford, and currently serves as an adjunct art Professor at Capital Community College in Hartford.
