Sportspark
Opened on 6 February 2001, by Anne, Princess Royal and funded by a Sport England Lottery grant, The Sportspark is situated within the University of East Anglia campus and is one of the top sporting facilities in the United Kingdom.
Facilities
Facilities include an Olympic-sized 50-metre swimming pool or can function as two 25-metre swimming pools, Gym, Climbing Wall, five squash courts, Barclays Area with 3 halls and the newly built Haydn Morris Hall with two halls able to accommodate any sport with five volleyball courts, 20 badminton Courts, Indoor Cricket, five Korfball courts, archery, fencing, Table Tennis, and Netball. Outside there is an athletics track, two full-size Astro Turf to hold two 11-a-side matches or six 7-a-side football pitches and four newly built 3G football pitches and six tennis courts. The Sportspark has recently welcomed its 10 millionth customer, and on average receives 1.2 million customers a year.
Swimming
The Sportspark has The Bernard Matthews Olympic Swimming Pool within the facilities. This pool can function as one 50 m swimming pool or as two 25 m swimming pools. When functioning as two swimming pools, one end has a movable floor which can go as deep as 1.8 m and can go as shallow as 0.0 m. For the swimming timetable and prices visit the Sportspark website.
Climbing
The Sportspark has the largest climbing wall in Norfolk. With 16 different routes, changed every 2-3 months. Climbers of all abilities are welcome but a climbing registration is required. U16's must climb with an adult, otherwise they can join the Junior Climbing Club on a Saturday morning. There is also a bouldering cave with some tricky climbs in it. Squash
The Sportspark has five glass backed courts. There are leagues with inside the Sportspark and courses are available for adult and children, for all abilities, or you can book and just play with a friend. Fitness
The Sportspark has an air-conditioned Fitness Centre, with over 80 Cardio-Vascular and Weight machines. All Fitness Advisors are fully qualified, so you'll alyways be getting the best advice whatever you want to know. To make sure you get the best out of your time at the Fitness Centre, a one-off induction is required, and available every day. Circuit Training and Boot Camp are also another good way of keeping yourself fit. Daytime sessions are free.
