Spanish flyz
Spanish Flyz is a Bosnian post-punk and pop punk rock band formed in 1999. The band's lineup has primarily consisted of Amer Mahmutovic (vocals), Dzanan Junuzovic (guitar), Haris Hadrovic (drums, percussion, and backing vocals), and Haris Saracevic (bass guitar).
Ovo Ne Valja has been the band's only album since their inception. However, the band has confirmed on its MySpace page that it is to release a second studio album this year, under title of 24/7, and that recordings are in their final phase. They have participated at a variety of different festivals and concerts of their own across Bosnia and Herzegovina and other countries in the region. The band cites Blink 182, Fallout Boy, The Cure, Green Day, NOFX, Rancid, Billy Talent, and Good Charlotte as their influences.
History
Formation (1999–2003)
The band was established in 1999 under the initial name of "Bad Joke" with a line-up comprising Dzanan Junuzovic, Amer Mahmutovic, Haris Sirbubalo on drums, and Zlatko Bilalovic on bass guitar. The band changes its name to "Spanish Flyz" in 2001 after Haris Sirbubalo leaves in late 2003 to further his studies in the United States, after which the band goes on a short hiatus. They are then reunited in early 2004 with Haris Hadrovic as the new drummer and backing vocalist.
This line-up records the bands first studio recording the same year and releases it in early 2005. The album is relatively well-received by the indie circle and the band goes on an unofficial promotional tour around the country and region. Bilalovic subsequently leaves the band, prompting them once again to search for a new bass player, having eventually Haris Saracevic from Ofsajd join the band.
A More Popular Spanish Flyz (2004-present)
The band had been starting to get invites to a variety of venues around Bosnia and Herzegovina, followed by several gigs in Croatia and Serbia. They have performed across Sarajevo in clubs such as Bock and Sloga and at various other smaller festivals within the city.
In more recent years, perhaps most effectively through the single Siđi Rasho Sa Planine, the band has become recognized for its politically- and socially-driven lyrics pertaining almost exclusively to the Balkans. The song also gained the most radio airplay, through independent and student-run radio stations across the country, of any of the songs on the album. The single Deen, which was released separately in 2007 and is likely to be released on Disco Punk later this year, also received considerable radio airplay, and became noted for its satirical take on the eponymous Bosnian pop star.
The band, perhaps most prominently, performed at Rastok in Jelah in August 2007, then at KUŠTRO the next year.
