Social Wallpapering

Social Wallpapering, popularly known as SocWall, is a community-driven effort to freely distribute high-resolution pictures for use as computer wallpaper. The site was conceived in March 2006, and was created by Kirk Ouimet, the current maintainer of the site.

Features

Browsing

SocWall hosts a large number of high-resolution images, all of which were uploaded by the community. Visitors can browse the collection by a variety of criteria, including topic, popularity, and recent additions.

Rating

SocWall also allows visitors to rate the pictures using a set of arrows located at the bottom of each thumbnail image. Along with the number of viewings and time spent on the site, SocWall can determine the overall popularity of an individual picture.

Downloading

If the user has a BitTorrent client, such as uTorrent, SocWall allows downloading of wallpaper packs known as "torrents." These usually consist of AbOUT 150-170 user-submitted wallpapers in a variety of resolutions, available to download using the BitTorrent protocol.
