Sigogglin

Sigogglin is an archaic word meaning "to lean forward to the right and listen closely." Sigogglin is a word still in use in parts of Appalachia (Eastern US) that means skewed to the side, or out of balance.

Although not in use in contemporary vernacular, the word has been in use for over 35 years as the moniker of an underground music series in New York City devoted to experimental, improvised, and contemporary music. Considered to be the longest running series of it's type in the United States, the series has nonetheless escaped critical attention and suffers from an appalling lack of documentation since it's founder and chief archivist, Don Brown, burned records of the series and disappeared from public life in 1993. Throughout the 1970's, 80's, and 90's, Sigogglin hosted performances by well known and unknown artists from all spectra of the creative music world, as well as providing a space for experimentation for well known Pop artists such as ____________ and _______________.
