Sickness (musician)

Sickness is the harsh noise project of the American noise musician Chris Goudreau. Started in 1986 SICKNESS was a private project that grew into a full effort over several years.

Background

Interested in working with sound, feedback and echo Goudreau began using tape loops, amplifier feedback, microphones, effect pedals and layered recordings to create abrasive soundscapes. Goudreau's work is marked by an obsessive editing, sound manipulation and attention to detail which is movitated by a subject or expression of a theme. In recorded form (and recently live shows) this manfiests itself as extremely precise and fast-paced editing.

Beginnings

The early years saw The Release of many private tapes made in small amounts and distributed mostly to friends. Over the years SICKNESS has released (both privately and through other labels) 12 full length releases, several eps, a number of split releases and contributed to many compilations.

Performances

The first official performance of SICKNESS was in Lowell at RRRecords in 1994 in front of a small audience. Since then, SICKNESS has performed all across the USA and in overseas: Japan, Russia, Germany, England, Poland, Latvia, Lithuania, and Italy. Goudreau has also been a live member of Slogun, Skin Crime, and Macronympha.

Side Projects

Besides SICKNESS, Goudreau is involved in an ambient side project called OMEI and runs his own label, Ninth Circle Music. He has also worked with the power electronics project TAINT in V.D.
