White Noise Paranormal Radio

White Noise Paranormal Radio is a weekly independent talk radio show AbOUT the paranormal, broadcasting live from the county of Essex in the UK. The show airs every Friday night between 10pm and midnight (GMT) and is best known for its regular live InterViews with very notable names in the paranormal world. Former guests include sceptic James Randi, former Ministry of DeFence UFO researcher Nick Pope and Ciaran O'Keeffe, Derek Acorah, and historian Richard Felix from UK television show Most Haunted amongst others.

The show encourages listener interaction through the use of a live chat room, SMS messaging, phone lines and Skype.

The Show

The show focuses on all aspects of the paranormal through an open discussion with guests including questions from the listeners. Lively debate often ensues and various topics of the paranormal are covered during a single show. Jason usually 'takes the helm' as the show's anchor and main host with Kelly taking charge of monitoring the chat room and the listener questions whilst also co-hosting the show. White Noise Paranormal Radio does not follow the traditional standard talk radio format of 'question and answer' but also includes listener questions, thus asking the questions the listeners want answering as oppose to just the questions the guests are prepared to answer.

In general, the shows format is:

  • 10pm - 11pm with a special guest
  • 11pm - Midnight with paranormal chat, news and specific topics

The Hosts

Jason Day

Author and radio host Jason Day works ridiculously hard at his regular job to ensure he has the time to indulge his other passions - paranormal investigation and writing.

Jason was the longest serving feature writer for ‘Paranormal’ magazine (March 2006 – January 2008), the largest monthly paranormal publication of its kind in the UK at the time. Jason has recently written for ‘FATE’ magazine in the USA and also ‘Ghost Voices’ magazine in the UK. Jason also works with others in the written media, recently conducting soon-to-be-published interviews with some very prominent names in the paranormal community.

Jason’s experience working in the paranormal field has been varied ranging from being a regular co-host on the ‘Friday Night Paranormal Show’ on Pulse Talk Radio, being the featured article writer for the paranormal reference website ghostdatabase.co.uk and also being the chief consultant for Famously Haunted on MySpace.

Jason currently hosts Famously Haunted's 'White Noise Paranormal Talk Radio Show' on Blog Talk Radio and has interviewed such figures in the paranormal community as James Randi, Ciaran O'Keeffe, Mark Webb, Richard Felix and Jason Karl.

One of three founding members of a small not for profit, paranormal investigation team by the name of S.P.I.R.I.T (Society for Paranormal Investigation, Research, Information & Truth - established March 2006) Jason’s commitment to investigating and explaining the paranormal continues.

The aim of S.P.I.R.I.T is to provide members of the public with assistance in cases where they believe their home or business may be experiencing paranormal activity and provide them with peace of mind, assistance and a resolution (should it be possible to do so).

S.P.I.R.I.T does not and will not ever charge for their services, nor are they a ‘ghost tour’ operator – they investigate in order to better understand the paranormal field, and to assist those who often feel they have nowhere else to turn to resolve or explain strange phenomena.

Jason has, he believes witnessed two spirit manifestations – neither of which have been able to be explained away as a result of any normal, logical phenomena. At this stage they remain ‘paranormal’. One of these experiences will be included in one of the two books Jason is currently writing, one of which is due for release 2009.

  • ”To all the sceptics and all the believers out there the best piece of advice I can give is keep searching for the truth.”

Kelly McKenzie

Author and co-host Kelly McKenzie comes from a business background. Kelly is on the Board of Directors of Famously Haunted and also headed a paranormal group of her own in her native Australia, before moving to the UK and joining S.P.I.R.I.T (Society for Paranormal Investigation, Research, Information & Truth - established March 2006).

Kelly is also a non-fiction writer and children's book author, her first children's book 'Little, Like Me' was released in November 2006.

In her own words:

  • "From the scientific aspects of investigation to the experiential side, the study of the paranormal has always fascinated me.

Of equal fascination is the psychology of the people who investigate anomalous phenomena and the 'world' they build around their passion for the paranormal.

What makes an otherwise rational person sit in darkened rooms listening for small noises, produce shakily filmed video's a la Blair Witch and spend hours trolling through video and Dictaphone tapes looking and listening for anomalies?

Do mediums and psychic ability really exist? If there are indeed mediums, how does their ability work -is it (as some claim) a gift from a higher being, a curse or a heretofore undiagnosed biological anomaly? Why are people so desperate to believe a person has abilities without any tangible proof?

What role does the modern academic and scientific community play in relation to paranormal field research? Is the modern day amateur Paranormal Investigator contributing to or detracting from qualitative and quantitative study into the paranormal?

Is it the Thrill of the Chase or Commitment to Proof that drives the paranormal community? These are just some of the questions that drive me in my quest."

The History of White Noise Paranormal Radio

The Conception

White Noise was the brainchild of three members of the Board of Famously Haunted, Jason Day, Kelly McKenzie and Dan Shephard. Famously Haunted are an association that award people in the paranormal community that have contributed positively to the paranormal.

Jason, Kelly and Dan noticed a lack of unbiased presentation within the paranormal, spiritual and scientific community on the radio shows they had heard so they decided to provide an audio forum for all points of view to be aired. They also wanted to make a show that would allow the listener access to prominent figures within the paranormal and allow them the opportunity to ask them the questions they wanted the answers to, not just the questions that the guests wanted to answer. They decided they were going to ask all of the listeners questions, even the tough one's and leave it up to the guests if and how they answered them.

So the team put the idea to the other members of the Famously Haunted board and the organisation backed them. Hence the show's full title being 'Famously Haunted presents White Noise Paranormal Radio'. This is also the reason why the White Noise Paranormal Radio show comes under the channel Famously Haunted on the BlogTalk Radio Network.

The show went on to premiere at 10pm on 22 August 2008, on the BlogTalk Radio Network.
