Shekhar Lama

Shekhar Lama (born March 9, 1988) is a Nepalese film producer and screenwriter. He is the founder of The Palm Group Pvt. Ltd., a production and post-production company established in Nepal in 2014.

Early Life and Education

Lama was born in Bhimeshwor-07, Dolakha, Nepal. He developed an interest in the arts through local cultural programs and school events, and began his career in the entertainment industry as a dancer and choreographer.

Career

Lama transitioned from performance into film production to pursue greater creative involvement in the stories he worked on. His first producer credit was the 2013 film Heroz. He founded The Palm Group in 2014.

His 2021 film Tulkee, which he wrote and produced, was shot in the Upper Dolpa region and depicts the practice of polyandry among remote communities in Nepal. The film received a Special Film Award in 2023, presented by the President of Nepal. In a 2026 interview with Himalaya Times, Lama stated that commercial success should not come at the cost of a filmmaker's originality.

He has since produced Mit Baa ko Gaun (2023) and has upcoming projects including Lusu and Damini Gaun.
