Sayogo Hendro Subroto

Sayogo Hendro Subroto (born 11 November 1948 in Surakarta, Indonesia) is the Ketua (Head) of Komisi D: Bidang Pembangunan (Commision D Development Oversight) for Jakarta Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat Daerah Propinsi Khusus Ibukota (DPRD-DKI) (or People's Regional Consultative Assembly- Special Administrative Province of Megopolis) , Jakarta. This is his second term as peer-elected Head. Also commonly known as Bapak Sayogo Hendrosubroto.

Mr Hendro Subroto is the peer-elected Ketua Komisi D: Bidang Pebangunan (Chief of Commission D: Development Overseers) for the Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat Daerah [DRPD] (People's Representative Regional Council) Propinsi Daerah Khusus [DKI] Ibukota (Province of Special Administrative Megopolis) of Jakarta.


Mr. Sayogo Hendro Subroto is a qualified civil engineer and former partner in a prominent Jakarta civil construction firm, Arupadatu, with several Jakarta buildings of note- most famous being the Rumah Sakit Pondok Indah (Pondok Indah Hospital)- a world-class hospital in the well-heeled South Jakarta suburb of Pondok Indah (beautiful village).


Following election to the DRPD, Mr Mr Sayogo Hendro Subroto resigned all former business activities to focus on politics. As a vocal and outspoken critic of the widespread Indonesian political practice of corruption, graft and abuse of power, Mr Sayogo was seen by many reporters and even political opponents as one of few virtuous politicians willing to publically lead by example.


A false claim of corruption made by political enemies jealous of his position and qualifications was quashed utterly by the KPK (Commission for Investigation of Corruption, Collusion and Nepotism). The KPK awarded Mr Sayogo Hendro Subroto numerous plaques and certificates duly noting his publically available and disclosed full financial records and congratulating him on his fight against pervaise graft by less scrupulous political comrades. Mr Sayogo Hendro Subroto is one of the very few Indonesian politicians certified as 'clean'. Mr Sayogo Hendro Subroto is also holder of Sarjana Ilmu Politics (Graduate Degree in Politics).


Mr Sayogo Hendro Subroto has made numerous inroads into 'sosialisasi' (social acclimatisation) of Indonesians in an endeavour to promote civic pride and citizen responsibility. As a qualified engineer and publically celebrated 'clean' politician, Mr Sayogo Hendro Subroto is a favourite of Jakarta reporters for his concise, clear and eloquent critique of Indonesian political maneuvering, his championship of the poor and greater civic and social responsibility by the wealthy and powerful. as exampled by:

The Head of City Council Commission D overseeing infrastructure, Sayogo Hendrosubroto, yesterday lambasted the decision of French water company PT PAM Lyonnaise Jaya (Palyja) to sell 49 percent of its shares. Councillors called Palyja's actions "robbery" as 95 percent of the company's shares were originally given to it by PAM Jaya in 1996.
"Palyja, exploiting the loopholes in the 25-year cooperation contract (with the city), sold 49 percent of its city-granted stakes to local partner PT Astratel Nusantara and Citigroup Financial Products Inc.," Sayogo said.
The proceeds from the sale went to Palyja owner Suez Environment and Palyja has repeatedly said that the sale will improve the company's management performance by involving local partners in Palyja's operation.
However, Sayogo said Suez Environment was only looking to make money, because the funds were not going to be reinvested to improve Palyja's performance.

Late Wife


Mrs Sri Oetari Ratna Dewi (born 26 September, 1960, passed November 2003) requires mention as she was also a highly popular female PDI-P representative for Semarang and an MPR member, where she was known as a champion of women's equality. Mrs Sri Oetari was a close personal and professional friend to former President Megawati Soekarnoputri. At her State funeral, a very moving tearful speech by House Speaker Akbar Tanjung was given to a packed gallery at the Indonesian Parliament Building.
