Saturnalia (band)

Saturnalia were a British psychedelic band, whose sole album was the first 3D picture disc and has therefore become highly collectable. It also gained a certain amount of notoriety by featuring the band members topless on one side of the picture disc.

The band, including former members of the band Horse, went on a headlining tour of the UK, culminating in a performance at London's Rainbow Theatre. The tour was not a financial success and the band disbanded soon afterwards.

Magical Love

The LP Magical Love was produced by former Yardbird Keith Relf, and it was first released in 1973 (not 1969 as erroneously stated elsewhere), (The re-release on World Wide Records states "published 1973. Copyright 1992") having several reissues being done later (by Italian Akarma label for example). The album contains slightly occult themed Psychedelic early progressive rock, resembling Jefferson Airplane with their similar male/female double vocals and West Coast psych sounding guitar tones.

The definitive versions of “Magical Love” album have a 28-page booklet about cosmology (written by Richard Gardner & Tammo de Jongh) and 'free love'.

The album was the second ever picture disc (following Curved Air's Airconditioning).

The process of making the picture disc (a laminate of cardboard with two transparent layers of vinyl) caused the record to be very noisy (bass rumble) so there were a few made in black vinyl with a white label. Cutomers who complained were sent the black vinyl disc free and got to keep the picture disc as well.
