'''Rustboro City''', known as '''Kanazumi City''' (カナズミシティ ''Kanazumi Shiti'') in the original Japanese version, is a place in the [[fictional world]] of [[Pokémon]].

Rustboro is just north of Petalburg Woods and Route 104. The first gym leader, [[Roxanne (Pokémon)|Roxanne]], lives here as a teacher. Also, the player needs to complete the Mr. Briney side quest if he or she wants to get to the next town.

Upstairs is a father trying to get his baby daughter, Walda, to laugh. In order to make her laugh, you must enter a special code. Depending on the code you enter, the father will give the player a special background for their Pokémon storage PC. The player should go to the Cutter's House, where a man upstairs will give him or her HM01, Cut.

If the player goes to the [[Devon Corporation]] headquarters after he or she obtained the Devon Goods and talks to the President on the top floor, he or she can receive a Pokénav. After one has obtained a Root or Claw Fossil from the desert later in the game, one may give it to a scientist on the second floor to receive a [[Lileep]] or [[Anorith]], which evolve into [[Cradily]] and [[Armaldo]], respectively.

'''Rusturf Tunnel''' is a tunnel between Rustboro City and [[Verdanturf Town]]. It has been featured in several different places, including the [[Pokémon (anime)|anime]] and some of the [[Pokémon (video games)|video games]]. The only Pokémon found here is [[Whismur]].

Early on in the game, a member of [[Team Aqua]] (Sapphire/Emerald) or [[Team Magma]] (Ruby) will steal [[Wingull|Peeko]], the pet Pokémon of [[Mr. Briney]], a ship captain.

Later, you have to use '''Rock Smash''' to complete the tunnel join two lovers. The man will give you the HM Strength.

=== Gym ===
The gym leader in Rustboro city is [[List of Hoenn Gym Leaders#Roxanne|Roxanne]]. She uses [[Pokémon types#Rock-type|Rock-type]] Pokémon. In Ruby and Sapphire, she had a level 14 [[Geodude]] and level 15 [[Nosepass]]. In Emerald, however, she has two level 12 Geodude instead of one level 14 Geodude.

==Rustboro City in the animé==

Rustboro City is quite a large City, and is also on the coast. On the outskirts of the City, there is a Pokémon Contest hall. This is where May is inspired to become a Pokémon Coordinator, rather than battling in Gyms. Pikachu also begins to learn Iron Tail here.

When they arrive at Rustboro City, Max enrolls in a beginners course in the Pokémon Trainer's School, which is taught by Roxanne, (who is a teacher and doesn't run the school.) The next day, Ash battles Roxanne and wins a Stone Badge.

The group then explores the larger areas of the City, and meet Team Aqua for the first time, who they defeat at the Devon Corporation. They escape, however, and steal Captain Briney's boat. Captain Briney later takes them to Dewford Island.

==Demographics==
Because of the large size of Rustboro City, and the Devon Corporation the population is 47. This makes Rustboro City the third most populated city in Hoenn.
