Russian Embassy in Berlin attack plot
The 2017 Berlin [...] plot was a plot to attack the Russian embassy in Berlin which was foiled in April 2017, when security agencies detained a Moroccan man suspected of planning the attack. The attack was reportedly planned "as revenge for Russia’s support of the Syrian dictator Bashar Assad."
Incidents
A 24-year-old Moroccan immigrant, identified as Mohammed B.H., is in police custody since 8 April 2017. He was detained in a residence for asylum seekers in Borsdorf near Leipzig. He planned to approach the embassy by mingling with a crowd of protesters. He applied for asylum in 2016, but his application had been denied.
German media reported that the attack was foiled at the last moment, when a SWAT team stormed the residence. Mohammed B.H. tried to escape, but was arrested. Proceedings against him were opened because of planning a "serious act of violence against the state". In addition he is accused of having made a bomb threat against a local professional school.
