Mohammed T. Alkaramla
Mohammed T. Alkaramla is a Jordanian-born man who was arrested in January, 2009 and charged with threatening to bomb a school in Chicago.
According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, on Dec. 30, 2008, Alkaramla sent a letter threatening to bomb the Ida Crown Jewish Academy in Chicago. The letter threatened that explosives would be set off around the school unless the violence in Gaza stopped by Jan. 15, 2009. Alkaramla wrote, "It [sic] very important to make quick action before we make our decisions to set bombs."
According to an affidavit by FBI Special Agent Timothy Lauster, the letter, addressed to Jewish leaders and rabbis, threatened to target 22 Chicago area Jewish schools and educational institutions.
Alkaramla was identified by fingerprints made when he was arrested in 2003 t for possession of [...] in Chicago. The prints matched those on the threatening letter, according to the FBI.
A laptop computer found during a Feb. 12 search of Alkaramla's home, contained most of the threatening letter, according to Agent Lauster. On the day the letter was sent, the laptop had also been used to make Google searches for terms including: "Bomb attack+ Israel + letters" and "Jewish elementary schools in Chicago."
Alkaramla, who lives in the Chicago neighborhood of West Rogers Park, is also under investigation for vandalizing several Chicago-area synagogues in early January, 2009.
