Rune Storkaas
Pianist and composer, born in Bærum, Norway January 7th 1961. His musical style spans from ambient sound-scapes, to jazzy electronica and R&B. He started playing piano in early childhood and was told back then he could be a world class pianist if he would just start practicing, which he never did.
He was born 5 weeks late on a cold and starry winter night. His father, an aviation engineer and teacher mother went right back to work, so eventually his danish nanny tied him to the garage door to prevent him from running off which he frequently did. Mostly he went to the general store on the island to get ice cream. He never understood the concept of paying for it until much later. Three years old he kidnapped a girl in kindergarden and locked her up in his room. He was never charged with this. Later on in school he was the kid who never would do what he was told, but thanks to his 4th grade teacher he managed to find a way to cope with life in the real world. At age six he started playing the piano, determined to play Beethoven´s Pathetique sonata as soon as possible. He studied classical piano until he was eighteen but found jazz and other musical genres more interesting. He always had a thing for the tricky harmonies and loved playing with them. He also played in a couple of bands in his late teens. Got his first Fender Rhodes when he was sixteen and immediately fell in love with it. But after finishing music school and touring with the bands for some years he met his lovely future wife and sort of drifted along into advertising. That was probably a wise career choice which many years later allowed him to go out and buy a Yamaha Grand and finally Logic Express software he could run on his portable Mac. This was before Apple bought Emagic and before Garageband. He later upgraded to Logic Pro and his whole studio is built around it. He has recorded some nine hundred compositions. He released his first album «Liquid Lounge» in 2010. This album consisting of 12 pieces was recorded in 2007. The next album «Middle-aged White Guy Since 1974» will be released in may 2010.
