Rukshan Widyalankara

Rukshan Widyalankara is a Sri Lankan Chartered architect.

Early life & education

Rukshan was born in Colombo and entered University of Moratuwa after receiving his education from Nalanda College Colombo. He then graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Built environment BSc (BE) with honours in 1987. Later he gained a Master of Science in Architecture MSc (Arch) from University of Moratuwa. Following on he was enrolled with membership of the Sr Lanka Institute of Architects (SLIA) as a Chartered architect.

Professional career and awards

Widyalankara set up his own practice RWPL (Rukshan Widyalankara Pvt. Ltd.) and was elected as the President of Sri Lanka Institute of Architects (SLIA) from 2005 to 2007. He was the youngest to be elected as President and has held several posts prior to this election. Rukshan Widyalankara was also elected as the Chairman of Architects Registration Board in 2008.

Rukshan Widyalankara is also the current President of Commonwealth Association of Architects. Rukshan is the first Sri Lankan who was elected to the position of President of the Commonwealth Architects Association. He also has previously held positions of Vice-President, and Senior Vice President of this professional body.

Rukshan has also been the Vice President and Secretary of Chamber of Construction Industry of Sri Lanka (CCISL).

Awards

Rukshan won the Holcim Award offered to innovators involved in construction, architecture and engineering in 2001.

He was awarded the Young Architect of the Year by Sri Lanka Institute of Architects in 2002 and was the ever first Recipient.
